POWER OF SUBMISSIVENESS (POS) 1B
For the Married men in the reading audience, have you ever heard your wife or someone else alters this statement as “I am your wife, not your slave?” Have you ever made such a statement as a married woman?
It is also possible you might have heard your friend or sister say such things. Whichever way, often it comes out as an outburst. Such remark tells immediately what is going on in the mind of a woman. Such outburst is a rhetorical question to the husband because it is a call for check and balance (i.e Observation between spouses) on the state of the Marital Union. Possibly, what the man is seeing and demanding as a ‘RIGHT’ is seen by the wife as ‘INSENSITIVITY’. A sign of DANGER to her.
A woman should demonstrate her acceptance by tolerating her husband’s authority. Also, showing a willingness to SERVE him to the best of her capabilities. This ALLAAH mentioned to us in Suratun-Nisaa verse 34 about the men being the HEAD, PROTECTOR and MAINTAINER of women. The husband is the head of the wife. To submit means to surrender, it means to bow, to concede, to give up to, to hand over to someone.
Anas bn Malik reported that Allaah Messenger said:
“It is not permissible for a human being to prostrate to another human being. Was it permissible for a human being to prostrate to another human being, I would have commanded the woman to prostrate to her husband because of his great right upon her? By the One in Whose hand is my soul, if he (the husband) had, from his feet to the top of his head, an ulcer oozing blood and pus, and she came to lick it off for him, she would not have fulfilled his right”
[Recorded by Ahmad and Nisai]
When we look into the Tafsir of the verse quoted above, it requires a woman to submit herself to the husband after ALLAAH. Her body, her will, her emotions, her values, her pride and all that makes her who and what she is and represents. Wow! What is so great about the men, which warrant the women to do all these things for them? You must know that:
✍ It is a command from ALLAAH.
✍ it is for the peaceful and productive running of the family.
✍ It gingers him to do his responsibility more than expected.
All these do not necessarily mean that he (husband) is better than the wife. Nor higher in status or better species. But………..
Let’s meet again, for another SEGMENT POWER OF SUBMISSIVENESS (POS) 1C
